Last Thursday I went out to Pawnee Lake SRA. Tuesday we had freezing drizzle, Wednesday was very cold and windy. It was somewhat warmer on Thursday, with no wind. The effects of the wind are evident in these two photos.

I noticed there was a fair amount of bird activity around a couple of trees, so I parked and waited to see what I would see. My patience was rewarded by this Northern Flicker.

A beautiful glaze on this delicious landscape.
What a great post! Love the birds! The icy pictures are beautiful, I'm just tired of winter! So glad you're having 70 degree temps! Oh, do so wish I could say the same!! Thanks for the photos and the info!
Nature is the best artist, those first shots of the ice are awesome, and the birds are fantastic as well, thanks for sharing.
Have a great week!

Those are beautiful photographs. I love flickers. They are such an interesting bird to watch.
I always admire pictures of ice but I usually avoid being out in such weather. I loved the flicker, they some times grace our yard with their presence.
Beautiful ice and bird shots!
NB: Beautiful captures of your cold country. Things are changing quickly. That Northern Flicker is a lovely bird.
I love the flicker. Don't see those in my yard!!
March is such a month of contradictions! Wonderful photos. I wish I had the patience for the bird shots and the eye sight for that matter. Thank you for sharing your part of the world.
